Game 1: CPP 2, CSUP 1
CPP claimed a close 2-1 win over CSUP in the first game on Sunday. The Broncos broke a scoreless duel with a productive fourth inning. After
Austin Duarte,
Julian Angulo, and
Sebastian Arguelles each reached base with no outs,
Tyler Blade was able to push across the first run of the game on a groundout. The very next batter, a wild pitch allowed Angulo to come across to make it a 2-0 lead.
Â
Right-hander
Andrew Campbell pitched seven innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits while only allowing a solo home run in the top of the sixth. In his past two starts, Campbell has thrown 13.0 innings while only allowing nine hits and two runs to score. Redshirt freshman
Rex Jarcy delivered a scoreless inning out of the pen, followed by another scoreless inning from
Sean Suriyaniel for his first save of the season. Campbell picked up the win, his third of 2026.
Â
Despite only collecting six hits in the game, the Broncos got just enough offensive production for the 2-1 victory.
Â
Game 2: CPP 2, CSUP 4
Colorado State Pueblo struck first in the third inning with a three-run frame, highlighted by three timely RBI hits to put the ThunderWolves on top early. Cal Poly Pomona answered back in the bottom of the third when Duarte delivered an RBI single to right field, driving in
Justin Yeutter to cut the lead to 3-1. The Broncos continued to battle in the sixth, as a wild pitch allowed
Tyler Blade to score from third, trimming the deficit to a single run.
Â
On the mound,
Matthew Leyva took the loss after allowing the three spot in the third inning, while
Anthony Vasquez provided three scoreless frames of relief to keep the Green & Gold within striking distance.
Daniel Ruiz, Duarte, and Blade each reached base multiple times, with Ruiz and Yeutter each finishing with two hits in the contest.
Â
Colorado State Pueblo added an insurance run in the seventh, and despite late efforts by the Broncos' offense, Cal Poly Pomona couldn't complete the comeback resulting in a series split.
