Broncos Dominate Cal State LA to Clinch CCAA Tournament Berth

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona closed out the regular season in commanding fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating conference opponent Cal State LA, 86-54, on the road. With the win, the Broncos improve to 17-11 overall and 12-10 in CCAA play, officially punching their ticket to the CCAA Tournament.

Pomona established control from the opening tip and never relinquished it.

Kevin Simeth opened the scoring in the paint before Jake Goldberg connected from beyond the arc to give the Broncos an early cushion. Demarreya Lewis-Cooper added a three-pointer of his own, and Zach Broadous followed from deep as Pomona's perimeter shooting helped create early separation.

The Broncos' defensive intensity matched their offensive rhythm. When the Golden Eagles trimmed the margin to two midway through the first half, Pomona responded with composure.

Goldberg knocked down another three to spark a 14-4 run, while Michael Saba scored twice in the paint to extend the advantage. Asher Schroeder added a late finish inside, sending the Broncos into halftime with a 37-25 lead.

Pomona continued to build momentum in the second half.

Back-to-back finishes from Simeth pushed the lead to double digits, and a steal by Lewis-Cooper ignited a fast-break opportunity that stretched the margin even further. Goldberg connected on his fourth three-pointer of the game, and Broadous converted an and-one in transition as the Broncos surged ahead by more than 20.

The Broncos capped off the dominant performance by securing an emphatic 86-54 victory over Cal State LA, sealing their postseason berth.
