SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball clinched a spot in the upcoming CCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay by a score of 72-64. With the win, the Broncos claim their 20
th victory of the season, while also improving to 15-1 in conference play and holding a two-game lead in the CCAA standings. The 2026 CCAA Tournament for both men's and women's basketball will be held in Kellogg Arena on March 5-7th.
In a similar story to many other games this season, the Broncos set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead and never trailing for more than 16 seconds all afternoon. Cal Poly Pomona shot an efficient 48.9 percent from the field and built separation in the second quarter, outscoring the Otters 21-12 behind balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure. A 12-0 run late in the second period gave the Broncos their largest cushion of the half and sent them into the break with a 38-26 advantage.
Kadence Lloyd led the Broncos in scoring with 19 points off the bench, going 6-for-8 from the field, 2-for-3 beyond the arc, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line.
Sydney Nelson followed with 17 points, attacking the paint consistently and converting 7-of-9 free throws.
Brielle Minor added 12 points, six assists, and four rebounds while playing all 40 minutes.
Andrea Stajic chipped in seven points and made multiple defensive plays that helped control the tempo.
The Otters made a push in the fourth quarter, trimming the margin to single digits, but the Broncos answered each run with timely stops while converting 78 percent of free throw opportunities. Cal Poly Pomona finished with a 27-10 advantage in bench points while also winning the rebounding battle 31-27.
