Broncos Complete Series Sweep With Big Comeback Win

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona baseball mounted an impressive come-from-behind win in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, completing the series sweep over Cal State San Bernardino with a 16-11 win at Fiscalini Field. With the win, the Broncos improve to 12-6 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in conference play, placing them atop the CCAA standings.

The Broncos drew first blood in the top of the first inning, plating four runs behind three consecutive RBI plate appearances from Tyler Blade, Sebastian Arguelles, and Bryan Richman. The Coyotes responded with a big second and third, seizing a 6-4 lead. Down but far from out, the Broncos chipped away with a run in the fourth on a wild pitch, and another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to keep the game close.

Richman led the offense for CPP, as he finished with three hits and four RBI. Daniel Ruiz also turned in a strong performance, going 2-for-6 with three RBIs and igniting the eighth inning offensive eruption that ultimately decided the game. Austin Duarte and Jack Sanders each added two hits and scored multiple runs, as Cal Poly Pomona's top three hitters in the lineup batted a combined .478 (22-for-46) on the weekend.

Trailing 11-7 entering the top of the eighth, the Broncos unleashed a nine-run inning that featured six hits and two errors by the Yotes' defense. Blade delivered a two-run single and the floodgates opened as Pomona capitalized on defensive miscues and four RBI singles to retake a 16-11 lead.

On the mound, Pomona leaned on its bullpen to shut down the Coyotes' offense in the later innings. Colt Tucker earned the win with a scoreless appearance, his first of the season, while Gavin Smith worked two innings of shutout relief to help preserve the lead.
