LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos continued their outdoor season at the Beach Opener hosted by Long Beach State, posting several strong performances across both track and field events.
The Broncos found success in the field events, highlighted by a pair of runner-up finishes in the high jump. Harry Chen and Darius Hill each cleared 1.96m to tie for second place, while Evan Johnson added an eighth-place finish with a clearance of 1.81m. In the pole vault, Ian Strode led the group with a second-place mark of 4.73m, while Jered Beasley and Mio Desclous each cleared 4.43m to place fourth and fifth. Gavin Binning placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.98m, followed by Deandre Smith in seventh at 6.62m. Isaiah Baca added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.57m. In the throws, Cory Gamero recorded a 46.02m throw in the discus, while John Dvorak (49.62m) and Frank Macias (47.66m) led the Broncos in the javelin.
On the track, Deandre Smith led the 100 meters in 11.00, followed by Thenuk Chandrasekera in 11.15. Gavin Binning ran 22.22 in the 200 meters, while Chandrasekera clocked 22.51. Khalil Watson led a deep 400-meter group with a time of 48.42, with Konnor Handy (49.66), Jordan Crowdus (49.81), Evan Josephson (49.97), Nathan Santa Cruz (50.00), and Jeremiah Eyster (50.51) close behind.
The Broncos also performed well in the hurdles and relays. Darryll Stevens (56.55), Luke Amico (56.64), and Keegan Schmidt (56.76) placed fifth through seventh in the 400 hurdles. The 4x100 relay finished third in 41.29, while the 4x400 relay placed fourth in 3:13.30, recording an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
