SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona opened the 2026 CCAA Track & Field Championships with an impressive showing on the men's side, as the team currently sits just four points behind Chico State with 44 points.
The Broncos were paced by a standout effort in the distance events, as senior
Tom McDonnell claimed the conference championship in the 10,000 meters for the second straight year with a winning time of 30:26.72. Teammate
Daniel Echeveste also added valuable points with a sixth-place finish.
In the field events, the Broncos delivered multiple high-impact performances.
Isaiah Baca captured the long jump title with a mark of 6.97 meters, leading a group that placed three athletes in the top four.
Cory Gamero added another event win in the discus, throwing 46.98 meters to secure maximum points and highlight the team's strength in the throws.
Sam Coupland currently ranks second in the decathlon while
Evan Johnson ranks eighth. On the track, Cal Poly Pomona advanced four athletes through the 1500-meter prelims, while also sending multiple sprinters and hurdlers into the finals.
Darryll Stevens led the hurdle group with a strong qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles.
