EMPORIA, Kan. - Senior
Arissa Hatcher turned in a historic performance in the women's 800 meters, clocking 2:06.18 to earn a time qualifier spot into the final at the NCAA Division II Championships while also breaking her own school record in the event.
Hatcher placed third in Heat 3 and posted the third-fastest qualifying time overall outside of the automatic qualifiers, using a strong closing lap of 1:05.29 after splitting 1:00.90 through the opening 400 meters. Her mark shaved nearly a full second off her previous best and secured her place in tomorrow's final race at 3:25 PM PT.
Senior
Neshara Smith competed in the women's 100-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in Heat 1 with a time of 13.71 seconds. Racing in a loaded preliminary field that featured four eventual qualifiers to the final, Smith closed out her legendary Cal Poly Pomona career with yet another strong appearance at the national championships. Having placed 11th overall, Smith earned All-America Second Team honors, marking the fifth time she has reached All-America status in her CPP career.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of
Yasmeen Delgado,
Jordan Garcia,
Hannah Bassett, and
Jessica James posted a time of 3:40.79. The Broncos finished 10th overall in the national semifinal field, highlighted by a strong anchor leg from
Jessica James, who closed in 53.03 seconds. The Broncos split 1:51.52 at the 800-meter mark before improving position over the final two legs to cap the season with one of its fastest times of the year.
With their 10th place finish, each member of the relay team earned All-America Second Team honors.
