AZUSA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team delivered a well-rounded and qualifier-heavy performance at the APU Franson Last Chance, adding eight NCAA Division II provisional marks and entering the record book seven times.

At Azusa Pacific, the Broncos were particularly sharp in the sprints and relays, led by Ekene Onwaeze, who placed second in the 100 meters with a personal best of 10.48 after running 10.56 in the prelims. He doubled back to post an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 21.04 in the 200 meters, finishing sixth overall and leading a strong sprint group that saw Jayden Newkirk clock 21.31 and Dylan Hanvey add a 21.73 effort.

Cal Poly Pomona's 4x100 relay unit of Thenuk Chandrasekera, Newkirk, Hanvey, and Onwaeze was a highlight of the meet, racing to a first-place finish in 40.59 to secure an NCAA provisional mark. The 4x400 relay also turned in a qualifying performance, placing fourth in 3:11.66 behind a lineup of Konnor Handy, Nathan Santa Cruz, Jordan Crowdus, and Khalil Watson.

Watson added to the team's qualifying tally individually, running 47.16 in the 400 meters for another NCAA provisional mark while placing sixth overall. He was supported by a deep quarter-mile group that included Evan Josephson (48.53) and Santa Cruz (48.64), both contributing to the team's overall sprint depth.

In the distance events, Ricardo Vargas delivered one of the top performances of the weekend, placing fifth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:34.73 to hit the NCAA provisional standard, and being just three one hundredths short of tying the school record. Tom McDonnell followed with a 30:49.13, while Luke D'Elia broke 15 minutes in the 5,000 meters (14:56.67). The steeplechase group added depth with Jimmy Guerrero leading the way at 9:17.17, followed by Francisco Zavaleta (9:24.89).

The field events produced multiple qualifying marks and strong placements. In the high jump, Harry Chen and Darius Hill each cleared 2.05 meters to hit NCAA provisional standards and place sixth and eighth, respectively. Gavin Hanes added a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.03 meters, also meeting the provisional mark.

The horizontal jumps group showed consistency, led by Deandre Smith's 7.25-meter effort in the long jump, while Hill (7.05m) and Gavin Binning (7.02m) landed among the top 20. In the throws, Cory Gamero placed fifth in the discus at 48.80 meters, and John Dvorak added a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 58.33 meters.

Across the two-day meet, the Broncos compiled eight NCAA Division II provisional marks, a relay victory, and a collection of top finishes while continuing to build depth across sprints, distance, and field events. The performance served as a final tune-up, with several athletes improving positioning for postseason qualification.
