Biography

As a Junior in 2014: Pitched 13.2 innings in 12 appearances... Recorded a 1.98 earned run average with just three earned runs... Threw six strikeouts and earned a 1-0 record on the year... Allowed just one run through his first six appearances... Registered a 1.000 fielding percentage with nine plays to the mound... Received academic accolades with a spot on the 2013-14 CCAA All-Academic Team. 

As a Sophomore in 2013: Made 13 appearances as a sophomore and started two games... Totaled 18.2 innings and struck out 13 batters... Picked up his second career win after a 2.2-inning relief performance against Azusa Pacific on April 10... Allowed just five earned runs from Feb. 15 through April 15.

As a Redshirt Freshman in 2012: Posted impressive numbers in limited action through 2012, throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just one hit... Went 1-0 with five appearances and a 2.84 earned run average... Struck out six batters, including at least one in four of his five outings... Threw a scoreless inning of relief against three different opponents: Chico State, Azusa Pacific and Cal State East Bay.... Earned a spot on the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Team after maintaining a grade point average above 3.40 through the 2011-12 academic year.

As a Freshman in 2011: Did not compete for the Broncos in 2011, earning the redshirt designation.

High School: A 2010 graduate of Upland High School... Played with current Broncos' teammate Ryan Goodman... Two-sport star in basketball and baseball... On the diamond, earned All-Baseline League honorable mention accolades as a senior and maintained an ERA under 2.00 for his high school career... Threw a two-hit complete game shutout against Etiwanda High School at the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Stadium... Selected to the All-CIF team in hoops... Earned a spot on the academic honor roll as a sophomore and received the Baseline League academic award.

Personal: Born Sept. 21, 1992... Son of Dennis and Brenda Powell... Father threw more than 300 innings in Major League Baseball and spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners... Has three brothers named Dennis, Evan and Bryce... Business Administration major... Favorite pro teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Mavericks... Favorite athlete is Clayton Kershaw... Aspires to play professional baseball or work marketing in professional sports... Enjoys watching sports with friends and playing video games in his free time.
