Cal Poly Pomona Athletics

Hall of Fame Criteria

Last amended October 2025

CANDIDATE CATEGORIES

PRIMARY CANDIDATES – All candidates will be compared nationally, within the conference and historically at Cal Poly Pomona. The ideal candidate will have been recognized as an All-American, conference player of the year, and school record holder. In the case where a position in a particular sport does not have school records, other mitigating factors will be considered such as team success. Nominees without significant accomplishments at any level will not be considered.  For primary student-athlete candidates, athletic careers must have lasted for at least two (2) years, and ended at least five (5) years prior to consideration for induction.

VETERAN CANDIDATES – All candidates will be compared nationally, within the conference, and historically at Cal Poly Pomona. Athletes who participated before 1985 are not included in the graduation requirement. The committee recognizes candidates had fewer opportunities for national honors in the NCAA, so candidates in this category may have fewer national honors or school records. A key consideration for all Veteran Candidates will be conference honors with first-team all-conference recognition a minimal requirement.

ACADEMIC CANDIDATES – An overall grade point average of 3.5 is a minimum requirement, and graduation is a requirement regardless of the year of competition. Athletic success is not a primary consideration in this category. A key consideration will be conference honors, with second-team all-conference recognition a minimal requirement. National honors and/or school records enhance the candidate’s credentials for selection.  For academic student-athlete candidates, athletic careers must have lasted for at least two (2) years, and ended at least five (5) years prior to consideration for induction.

ADMINISTRATOR/COACH – Coaches and Administrators with 10 years or more of service may be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame. Candidates deserving consideration should have many outstanding years of service, accomplishments on the national and conference level, as well as historical significance at Cal Poly Pomona. The administrator or coach must be retired from Cal Poly Pomona or have had five (5) years elapse since they concluded service at the University.

TEAM NOMINATIONS – There will be a 10-year minimum waiting period for team consideration. Teams no longer need to be inducted on the 5-year anniversary (starting in 2025), and may be inducted in any class once the 10-year waiting period has concluded. All teams National and historical records will be key considerations (e.g. national championship teams, national Top 10 teams, first-ever conference champions, etc.).

HONORARY CANDIDATES – The Honorary category, officially introduced in 2025, recognizes individuals whose exceptional leadership, contributions, or standing in the sports community have made a profound impact on Cal Poly Pomona Athletics or the broader world of sports. These honorees may not meet the criteria of primary, veteran, academic, or administrator/coach candidates, but their impact is worthy of lasting recognition. Honorary candidates must have been directly affiliated, either past or present, with the Cal Poly Pomona Department of Intercollegaite Athletics.
