Broncos Picked First in CCAA Preseason Poll

The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team was ranked first in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) preseason poll. The Broncos were coming off their first regular season title in program history, going 11-5-3 during the 2023 campaign.

The team received 134 points and six first-place votes in the poll, narrowly edging out Cal State San Marcos at 133 points. San Marcos, along with Cal State LA and Stanislaus State, also received first-place votes.

CPP 1, Vanguard 0

The match served as the 2024 season opener for both CPP (1-0) and Vanguard (0-1). The Lions, out of Costa Mesa, are brand-new members of the NCAA Division II and the Pacific West Conference (PacWest), having reclassified from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). They were picked ninth in the PacWest's preseason poll, while the reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season champion Broncos are favored to repeat their success from last fall. Thursday marked the first matchup between the programs in nearly three decades.

CPP 2, Biola 0

True junior midfielder Marisa Salazar has three goals through two games as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team continued a season-opening three-game non-conference home stand with a 2-0 win over Biola University on Saturday night at Kellogg Stadium.

The victory moved reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) champion and preseason favorite CPP to 2-0. Biola, picked seventh in the 14-team Pacific West Conference (PacWest), was contesting its 2024 season opener.
