The Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team extended its season Saturday, adding another chapter to 2016 with an impressive bit of history.

With a fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Region Championships in Montana, the 2016 Broncos are now just the third women's cross country team in CPP history to advance to nationals. The Broncos made their first appearance at nationals in 1985, placing seventh. Then in 2010, CPP took 19th in Louisville, Ky.

The 2016 Broncos have earned their opportunity to shine on the national stage, with the NCAA D-II National Championships to be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Saint Leo, Fla.

To get there, it took a team effort Saturday in Montana. CPP totaled 164 points to lock in the fifth spot ahead of sixth-place Cal Baptist at 185 points. Chico State captured the West Region title with 70 points.

Senior Calene Morris led the way once again for the Broncos, placing 13th individually with a time of 21:48.32.
