CARSON -- One night after a disappointing five-game loss to No. 21 Cal State Los Angeles, the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos shook aside any lingering disappointment with a resounding 3-0 win over host Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday night.
The Broncos earned a 25-11, 26-24, 25-18 victory and improved to 11-16 overall and 8-12 in the CCAA. The Toros dropped to 1-26 and 1-19.
The Broncos took charge early, taking a 7-3 lead on a
Karissa Lagmay putaway before running off 18 of the next 26 points in the 25-11 Game 1 win.
CPP led throughout Game 2, but the Toros came from behind to lead 23-22.
But three kills -- two from
Taylr Kreutziger and one from
Kristin McNeese -- down the stretch gave CPP a 2-0 lead entering intermission.
CPP pulled away early in Game 3 with a 19-8 lead on a McNeese blast, the first of four-consecutive points on the serve of
Lindsey Poulos.
Lagmay led all players with 14 kills on .440 hitting.
As a team, the Broncos outhit the Toros .284 to .137.
CPP completes the 2009 season this week with matches against CSU Monterey Bay (Friday) and San Francisco State (Saturday). The match against the Gators will be Senior Night as the Broncos will honor
Jasmine Davis,
Elizabeth Diaz,
Audrey Driscoll and
Carissa Gurney.
