Box Score: CSUDH 3, CPP 2 (10 innings)

COMPTON
-- Junior Nick Tanos' solo home run in the eighth inning gave Cal Poly Pomona a strong threat in Thursday night's game against Cal State Dominguez Hills , but the Toros' Steve Carrillo followed with a solo shot of his own in the 10th and CSUDH defeated Cal Poly Pomona 3-2 in the John Scholinos Memorial Tournament played at Major League Baseball's Urban Youth Academy.

The loss dropped to CPP to 1-2 on the season and CSUDH improved to 1-1.

In an earlier game in the tourney, Cal State L.A. defeated Cal State San Bernardino 10-2.

Trailing 2-1 entering the eighth, Tanos blistered a two-out solo shot over the left-field wall off Toros' reliever Sean Wardour and tied the game for the first time since Travis Taijeron doubled in the second to score Robert Palmer, who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Broncos' pitching staff was solid on the night. The foursome of starter Travis Kelly and relievers Casey Yokubaitis, John Pollock,  Keith Powers and Krist combined for 11 strikeouts. Kelley threw 5 innings in his Bronco debut and the Cal State Fullerton struck out five, walked four and scattered five hits in 98 pitches.

Yokubaitis threw and an inning and a third and struck out two, Powers struck out one in 1 2/3 innings and Krist struck out three in two innings.

Offensively, Marcus Makia maintained his hot streak for CPP. He led the Broncos with a 3-for-4 effort and is hitting .750 through three games on 9-of-12 from the plate with two doubles.

Friday's game against Cal State L.A. in Compton has been rained out. It is unknown if it will be rescheduled.
