Bryan Clay Foundation
POMONA, Calif. - Several Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes recently helped out at the "Meet Bryan Clay" Track and Field Clinic, an event designed to inspire young children to stay active and healthy.
Clay is the reigning Olympic champion decathlon and was crowned world champion in 2005. The mission of the Bryan Clay foundation is to mentor individuals as they mature in their gifts and talents. It also tried to help motivate and empower them with the opportunities, desire and their practical tools necessary to maximize their potential.
Eleven student-athletes from the Bronco Athletic Association (BAA) assisted with the event held on Saturday, May 14, along with Pep Band Director James Rodriguez and cheer squad member Alexis Goebel.
"These types of moments can greatly impact a child's life," BAA President Jennifer Chow said. "You don't know how much you can change someone's outlook by simply showing up on a Saturday morning and engaging with children. While volunteering, not only do you get to meet an Olympian but you also get to potentially change a child's life for the better."
On that morning, the kids were given the opportunity to train like an Olympian. Prior to attending the event, the children raised money at their respective schools to save educational and athletic programs.
