CARSON, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills, with the result snapping the Broncos' three-match winning streak while also ending the Toros' seven-match losing streak.
Overall, Dominguez Hills held CPP to a hitting percentage of .137. In spite of that, sophomore
Lauren Jones put together a strong night on the attack for the Broncos as she collected nine kills while committing just one attack error.
The loss drops CPP to 13-13 overall and 9-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
The two squads matched each other block for block with senior
Taylr Kreutziger clearly a standout in that category for the visitors. Kreutziger racked up seven blocks Friday at the Torodome.
The Broncos held an early lead in the first game and maintained it until the late stages before Dominguez Hills took control of the momentum. Abbey Prusa led the Toros' attack, collecting three kills in the final five points to wrap up the 25-22 result in that frame.
The second game played out in a similar fashion as CPP held a 23-21 edge after a Kreutziger kill. Dominguez stormed back with Whitney Lee lifting the attack to give the hosts a 25-23 result.
That momentum for the Toros carried over to the third frame as they cruised to a 25-16 victory. Lee ended up as the only player with double-digit kills, registering 16 with an attack percentage of .353.
The Broncos will return to action Saturday with a 7 p.m. road match at Cal State L.A.
