Pi Kappa Phi, Zeta Tau Alpha Win All-Greek Spirit War

In helping increase The Herd membership to 225, Pi Kappa Phi and Zeta Tau Alpha won the inaugural All-Greek Spirit War.

POMONA, Calif. – As community pride continues to grow at Cal Poly Pomona, the Greek organizations on campus have played a key role in the athletic department's goal of increasing Bronco spirit.

With the help of fraternities and sororities, the student-only fan club for Bronco athletics - "The Herd" - has raised its membership count to 225. Leading the charge were Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, winners of the inaugural "All-Greek Spirit War" in January.

During that month, the organizations were encouraged to enroll as many of their Greek brothers and sisters as possible. Pi Kappa Phi delivered 47-percent participation on the fraternity side while Zeta Tau Alpha captured the title for sororities with 35-percent participation.

"Part of the mission of our fraternity is to strive to uphold campus traditions and activities, so it was a natural fit to take part in such an awesome new tradition," said Johnathan Jianu, ASI President and Pi Kappa Phi Warden. "We loved spending time with one another at the games while showing our true colors - green and gold."

The well-deserved recognition for the two organizations carries tremendous pride and bragging rights. The Pi Kappa Phi and Zeta Tau Alpha letters will be displayed in Kellogg Gym through 2012.

"We enjoy showing our support to the student-athletes who work hard to represent our university and we thought The Herd competition would be a great opportunity to show that," Zeta Tau Alpha sorority member Trista DeMuth said. "Through our strong sisterhood we were able to pull together in order to have almost half our chapter sign up and support."
