CLAREMONT, Calif. The 4x400 relay team of Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field always seems to feel right at home at the Cal-Nevada Invite.

On Sunday in Claremont, the group of Matt Boudreau, Brian Crane, James Weiner and Jacob Deavers combined for a second-place time of 3:13.24 that ranks 10th all-time in the Broncos' record books while hitting a "B" provisional qualifier and topping the 2012 best by more than three seconds. One year ago, Boudreau and Deavers helped CPP take first at the same event and meet.

Deavers also starred in the 400-meter hurdles this weekend and placed fourth in the finals Sunday with a time of 52.43. On Saturday, he dropped his "B" provisional qualifying mark to a career-best 52.18. Crane, a sophomore out of Chino Hills, Calif., trimmed a sizeable amount off his PR in the 400-meter dash Sunday as he crossed the line in 48.68 to record the team's top time so far in 2012.

Junior thrower Shane Cioni performed well in the discus as he set a new personal best with a ninth-place mark of 153-11. His previous best came at Cerritos one month ago while throwing a 151-6 distance.

Sophomore Travis Voorhees also turned in a top 10 performance Sunday for the Broncos when he finished seventh in the pole vault with a height of 15-1. Teammate Justin Ellerbee showed the most dramatic improvement for CPP in that event, registering a PR of 14-7.25. The pair aren't far off 15-6, the 10th all-time mark on the Broncos' leaderboard.

The Broncos will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Tiny Lister Invitational hosted by Cal State L.A. The hammer, discus and javelin throws will take place Friday while the rest of the action begins Saturday at 10 a.m.
