POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team will be looking to extend its current two-game win streak on Friday as it sets its sights on San Francisco State. As the second game in the double-header against SFSU, the game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
Last Sunday's win against the No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus Warriors improved the Broncos to an overall 8-4 record while evening out their record to a 3-3 tally in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
The Gators of SFSU have amassed a 7-5 tally on the year and a 2-4 total in conference.
San Francisco State will be looking to defend Cox Stadium as they are coming off of a 2-0 loss on Sunday at Cal State L.A.
In the all-time series the two teams are pretty evenly matched with the Broncos holding a slight 12-10-3 record over the Gators.
The last time the two teams met, at Kellogg Field in 2013, the Gators scored in the waning minutes of the game to defeat CPP 1-0, despite the Broncos holding a 19-7 shot advantage.
The win over CSU Stanislaus marked the second time this season that the Broncos had secured a victory over a nationally ranked team.
After the win,
Alison Sauve, who scored the lone goal of the day, received conference recognition as she earned CCAA Player of the Week honors.
SFSU has a formidable defense, as only one of their losses has been by more than a single goal. On the season the Gators have only been scored on 10 times. The Broncos' tenacious offense holds 20 goals of its own. The CPP squad is led by freshman midfielder
Daisy Duran, who has registered five goals thus far.
After the Broncos play in the bay, they move south to take on the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters. The Otters are currently even with the Broncos with a 3-3 conference record.
CSUMB is to first host the UC San Diego Tritons on Friday.
