CHICO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's volleyball team earned its fourth-consecutive victory Saturday night against the Wildcats of Chico State.
The Broncos took Chico State to the fifth set in what was a back and forth match. The Broncos won the first set 25-21, Chico the second 25-15 and third 25-14, CPP the fourth 25-19, and the fifth 15-12.
With the win the Broncos improve to a 10-6 overall tally, while securing a 8-5 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Wildcats now own an overall mark of 8-9, while posting a 6-7 record in conference play.
Chico managed to secure a total of 10 service aces on the night to CPP's four, but the Broncos posted five more blocks than the Wildcats, out-blocking them 10-5.
Zoe Herrera put on a defensive clinic as she led the Broncos with 31 digs in the match,
Tatiana Martinez and
Deanna Blaine both registered 15 digs of their own.
Blaine also tallied a total of 14 points with 13 kills.
Alexa Hasen collected nine kills, 12 points, and seven blocks herself while leading the Broncos with a .500 attack percentage.
Lauren Jones secured four blocks of her own while also posting eight kills and 10 points on the board for CPP.
The win means that the two squads have split the series for the year, each earning one win, which came in the fifth set. Securing the victory improves the Broncos to an all-time 25-17 record over Chico State.
CPP has led its opposition in many statistics thus far in 2014, leading in kills, assists, blocks, and points.
The Broncos will resume conference play as the road stretch continues against Cal State L.A. on Friday with a 7 p.m. first serve.
CSULA's Golden Eagles are coming off of a loss as they were swept by the Seawolves of Sonoma State. Last time the Broncos and Golden Eagles met, CPP had a five-set victory in Darlene May Gymnasium.Â
