CHICO, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer was unable to pull off a road win on Friday as they fell 3-1 to the Chico State Wildcats.
With the loss, the Broncos own a 6-3 overall record with a 1-2 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Chico improves to an overall mark of 5-3-1 with a 2-1 record in the CCAA.
In the 20th minute of the first half, the Broncos found themselves down 1-0 as Chico scored on a header.
CPP entered halftime trailing the Wildcats at that 1-0 score after being unable to put one in the net themselves.
The Broncos entered the second half ready to go and in the seventh minute of that period,
Daisy Duran found the back of the net. A nice set up from
Indra Arteaga gave Duran goal No. 5 on the year. The goal tied the game at one apiece.
A little more than 20 minutes later, Chico State was able to slip one past CPP's defense and into the goal, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
As pressure was placed on the Broncos' defense, a pass was sent back to goalie
Ricki Ives, whose attempt to clear the ball was cut short as a Chico forward was able to block the kick and send it back into the goal. The goal made for a 3-1 deficit, a score which CPP was unable to recover from.
The Broncos had six shots on goal and Ives registered six saves on the night, bringing her total on the year up to 25.
CPP will continue conference play on Sunday when the Broncos host the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills. It'll be the first game of a doubleheader. The Broncos' scheduled start time is 11:30 a.m. and they will be followed by the men's game, which is set to begin at 2 p.m.
