CPP to Race Among West's Best in Montana

POMONA, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's cross country teams will race among the West Region's best this Saturday at the NCAA Division II regional championships in Billings, Mont.

The Broncos will be contending for a chance to advance into the NCAA D-II National Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Louisville, Ky.

As is customary for CPP in recent history, this is the time of the cross country season when the Broncos battle the cold temperatures of early mornings in faraway places. After both the CPP men's and women's cross country squads placed second at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships in San Bernardino, expectations are heightened for the Broncos in Montana.

In the latest national poll released last week, the CPP men's squad ranked at No. 10 in Division II while the women were featured at No. 23. The top six West Region teams will move on to the nationals race in early December.

This Saturday, the men's race will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Mountain) and the women's race will follow at 11:15 a.m. Pacific (12:15 p.m. Mountain). After low temps as small as 17 degrees early this week, the Saturday temperature high is forecasted at 45 degrees with a chance of rain showers.

Last season at regionals, the Broncos' men's cross country team finished third to earn a spot at nationals. The CPP women's squad placed 12th overall.

This year's West Region Championships will be hosted by Montana State Billings and held at Amend Park. MSUB is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
