In Colorado Friday, West Region Title on the Line

GOLDEN, Colo. – With a thrilling 1-0 victory over Cal State L.A. last Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Tournament Third Round for the first time in 15 years.

In the single-elimination event, the Broncos' next game will take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Pacific (2:30 p.m. MST) in Golden, Colo. The competition for Friday's match? None other than fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) team, the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus. Live stats and live video are available for the game.

Playing at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) Soccer Stadium, the winner of Friday's matchup will be the West Region champions and they'll move on to take on either CSM or Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday at 2 p.m. Pacific (3 p.m. MST). The winner will then advance to the semifinals and finals in Louisville, Ky., on Dec. 4 and 6. The most recent appearance in the NCAA Third Round for CPP was the 1999 squad, a team that advanced all the way to the Final Four stage.

In conference play through 2014, CPP earned a 7-3-1 record that included a 1-0 win over then seventh-ranked Stanislaus. Thus far in the postseason, the Broncos are 3-1, with wins against UC San Diego, Point Loma, and No. 5 Cal State L.A. CPP's only postseason loss came in the semifinals of the CCAA Championships as Chico State secured a double-overtime goal to defeat the Broncos 1-0. Overall, CPP has earned a 15-5-1 mark on the year.

Senior midfielder Alison Sauve has proven to be the Cal Poly Pomona goal leader with seven and also the CCAA Defensive Player of the Year, leading the Broncos to a program-record tying 13 shutouts.

After going 6-4 to start the campaign, the Broncos have turned up the intensity and barreled through the remainder of the season. The last 11 games have seen the CPP tally a 9-1-1 record, including eight shutouts.

The Warriors currently hold a four-game win streak. Their past two victories came at the first and second round of NCAA playoffs, with their last win featuring an early goal. The Stanislaus goal leader is Jade Poon, who has secured 14 goals on the season

On offense Sauve leads the CPP squad with seven goals scored, right behind her is Melissa Martinez with six of her own, and Daisy Duran who owns five thus far. There are 10 other Broncos who have scored the remaining 16 goals.

In Golden, Colo., at the time of Friday's kickoff, the temperature is estimated to be between 40-46 degrees with a 10 mph wind. Follow the Broncos' journey through the NCAA Playoffs at BroncoAthletics.com or on social media: @cppbroncos.
