Broncos Win Final Non-Conference Game 69-48

POMONA, Calif. - A strong performance by a number of Broncos led to a 69-48 victory over the Bristol Bears on Monday night at Kellogg Gym. The win boosted the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball record to a 6-2 overall tally, with a final non-conference mark of 4-1.

With their loss, the Bears fall to a 3-7 record on the season. Jordan Faison earned the most points for CPP as a 5-for-8 performance from the field and a 3-for-4 mark from the line earned him 13 points. Add to that 10 rebounds and Faison earned a double-double on the night.

Second on the team in scoring was senior Terrence Drisdom, who added 11 of the CPP points with four buckets from the field, one from beyond the arc, and two from the line. Drisdom added four assists on the night.

Barry Bell turned in a powerful performance for CPP as a 4-for-7 mark from the field, with a couple of threes lined him up with 10 points. He also factored in four assists, a block, and led the Broncos with four steals.

Through only eight minutes on the court, Daylan Lawrence sank three triples to earn nine points, as his total led CPP in the long distance shots.

The first points in the game were tossed in by Drisdom as a jumper found the net. Bristol played a strong first half and remained close to the Broncos through much of the opening period, often only a basket or two from a tie.

In the first half, CPP turned in a 46.4 shooting percentage from the field, and sank 3-for-9 from the three-point range. The Broncos outrebounded the Bears 32-26 in the half and knocked down nine free throws to Bristol's seven.

At the end of the first half, CPP had worked its way to a six-point lead, pushing ahead 32-26.

Soon after the beginning of the second half, the Broncos went on an eight-point run that left the Bears looking at their first double-digit deficit.

The two teams traded points for a little while before the hometown squad would make its largest run of the game, putting up 14-straight points and finishing with a 22-point lead with only four minutes to play.

A basket for Bristol, and another run for the Broncos gave CPP a 25-point advantage, their largest of the game. Four more points from the visitors and the final score settled at 69-48 for CPP.

The Broncos will return to play on Dec. 21, as they travel to RIMAC Arena in La Jolla, for a 4 p.m. start against the UC San Diego Tritons.
