POMONA, Calif. - Recognizing true academic success with student-athletes, Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics has announced its Athletic Director's Honor Roll for Winter Quarter 2014.
The Honor Roll is composed of three parts, all based on the student-athlete's grade point average with a minimum of 12 graded units. The first is the Gold level with the GPA ranging from 3.50 to 4.00. Next is the Silver level between 3.30 and 3.49 while the third level is Bronze between 3.00 and 3.29.
All 10 of Cal Poly Pomona athletic teams are featured in the Honor Roll. Among the Gold-level accolades, the cross country and track and field teams account for 22 of the 45 honorees. In total for the Winter Quarter Honor Roll, 107 Broncos are recognized.
"It's important that we recognize these student-athletes as they've managed to compete at such a high level athletically while also excelling in the classroom," said
Scott Tsuji, the Broncos' Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services. "We had record-setting results in the Fall Quarter and now it's continued into the Winter Quarter with 107 student-athletes maintaining a GPA above 3.0."
Eight student-athletes maintained a GPA of 4.0 during the Winter Quarter with that group including Bryce Brady of men's basketball, Ariel Marsh of women's basketball, Christian Kelley of baseball, Brianna Thierjung of volleyball, Aiden Irish of men's cross country and track and field along with Summer Furzer, Samantha Swanson and Emily Bandy of women's track and field.
During the Fall Quarter, the 205 student-athletes combined for a GPA of 3.10 as 129 of them finished above the 3.0 mark.
