Women's Soccer Improves to 4-1 with Defeat of Regis

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 home win over Regis Sunday as the Broncos' record improved to 4-1.

CPP has proved to be dominant at Kellogg Field with a 4-0 record there while outscoring opponents 12-1 on the home field. The Broncos will play their final non-conference match on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Dixie State.

On Sunday in the Pomona heat, CPP kept the pressure on Regis with a 19-4 shot advantage. Junior Melissa Martinez, the team leader in points so far in 2014, got the Broncos on the board with a first-half goal in the 19th minute.

On that first scoring play, Reanne Macon rolled a pass to Martinez before she lined a shot past the Rangers' goalkeeper. The visiting squad limited the damage for the rest of the half and CPP took its 1-0 edge into the break.

In the 74th minute, Malia Spencer initiated the scoring chance by lining a shot that was deflected away by the Regis goalie. Ariana Fleischman capitalized on the rebound chance, taking a tremendous shot into the top of the net for her first goal as a Bronco.
