CPP Dealt 1-0 Defeat by 12th-Ranked Coyotes

POMONA, Calif. - Despite a nearly equal total of shots and scoring chances, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team suffered its first home loss Friday in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of 12th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino.

A goal at the 79:23 mark by Jasmine Williams proved to be the game winner with an assist coming from Melanie Aguayo on the play. Broncos' freshman goalkeeper Ricki Ives totaled four saves in the losing effort.

Entering Friday's match, CPP held a 5-0 record at Kellogg Field. In front of a sizeable crowd of 687 on "Pack the Stands" night, the Broncos' offense couldn't break through against the nationally-ranked Coyotes.

San Bernardino finished with a 10-9 advantage in shots while CPP totaled seven corner kicks as opposed to four from the Coyotes. With the result, CSUSB stays undefeated at 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Broncos, now 5-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, will return to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. showdown at UC San Diego. On Friday, the Tritons dropped a 1-0 loss at Cal State L.A.
