CPP Wastes No Time, Beats San Diego 1-0

LA JOLLA, Calif. - You can't keep the Broncos down long. Coming off of a conference opener loss to No. 12 CSU San Bernardino on Friday, the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos bounced back and beat the UC San Diego Tritons 1-0 on Sunday.

With the win, the women's soccer team improved to a 6-2 record, while evening out its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) at 1-1.

"Great team effort today on the road," head coach Mike Dibbini said. "It was another grinder. It was nice to see us rebound from Friday's game and get the W against a good opponent."

The Broncos wasted no time getting on the board as freshman midfielder Daisy Duran slipped one past the Tritons' goalie. Duran's goal pushes her season total to four.

In the goal for the Broncos, CPP freshman netminder Ricki Ives added three saves to her total for the season. The three saves means she has accumulated 19 for the Broncos in her eight games.

As a team, Pomona took a total of 14 shots to the Tritons' 12, and had one more corner kick than UCSD. The Broncos' victory drops the Tritons to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2 in their conference play.

CPP will see their next opponent on Friday as they travel to take on the Wildcats of Chico State. Chico is coming off of a 1-2 loss to Cal State L.A. The Wildcats hold a 4-3-1 record with a 1-1 mark in CCAA play.
