POMONA, Calif. - Prior to last Sunday's victory over UC San Diego, the most recent win in La Jolla for Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer came in 2004. Taking that positive momentum, the Broncos set their sights on Chico State, as they travel for a 7 p.m. game on Friday against the Wildcats.
The Broncos head into the game with a 6-2 overall record and an even 1-1 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. Chico State has accumulated a 4-3-1 overall record with an identical 1-1 conference tally.
In the all-time series, Chico holds a slight lead with the Broncos trailing with a 11-14-4 record against them.
CPP has proven to be a very selfless team on offense, as eight different student-athletes have scored at least one of the Broncos' 12 goals.
Daisy Duran leads the pack with four goals. In the No. 2 spot are
Melissa Martinez and
Amanda Gomez at three apiece, and there are five members of the CPP squad with one goal.
Last Sunday's victory at UC San Diego showed the intensity that the Broncos come out of the gate with as Duran scored a mere two minutes and 35 seconds into the game.
Protecting the goal for CPP was local freshman
Ricki Ives. Ives added three more saves to bring her season tally up to 19.
"Great team effort today on the road," head coach
Mike Dibbini said. "It was another grinder. It was nice to see us rebound from Friday's game and get the W against a good opponent."
Chico is coming off of a 2-1 loss against the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. The Wildcats' only goal came in the 81st minute from Cassi Scroggins, who is tied with three other members of the Chico State squad at two goals.
