POMONA, Calif. – With the Cal Poly Pomona and the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball programs tied for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Broncos will take to the road this week as they look to stay atop the standings. CPP is set to challenge the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., they will take on the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A.
The Broncos hold a 10-3 mark on the season, including a 6-2 tally in the CCAA. The Green and Gold squad will be carrying a three-game win streak with them after they secured victories against San Francisco State and Sonoma State this past weekend.
CSUDH will be facing the Broncos with a 4-10 record on the season. The Toros have had a tough conference start as they own a 0-8 mark in the CCAA.
Friday's 64-32 win over San Francisco State matched the second-fewest points allowed by CPP in the
Greg Kamansky coaching era. In that game, senior
Terrence Drisdom posted the most points for either team as he totaled 13.
Saturday featured a similar story as Drisdom again led the field, but this time he was one of three Broncos to eclipse the 10-point mark. Drisdom,
Jordan Faison, and
Daniel Rodriguez all provided double figures in the contest against the Seawolves.
Drisdom, a native of Corona, sits at No. 2 on the conference leaderboard with 16.8 points per game. He leads the CCAA in total number of field goals made. His 26 steals and 218 total points also place him at second on the leaderboards for those categories.
The Broncos have put together an impressive season thus far. They are near the top - if not leading - the conference in nearly every category. CPP holds the top spot in the following stats: defensive rebounds per game, points allowed per game, opponents' average field goal percentage, field goal percentage, and opponents' three point percentage.
After Friday, the Broncos will move on to CSULA. The Golden Eagles sit in the middle of the conference with a 4-4 mark and a 8-6 overall tally. On Friday, L.A. takes on the Tritons of UC San Diego.
Military Appreciation NightOn Friday, Jan. 23, the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos will host a Military Appreciation Night at Kellogg Gym. At that evening's doubleheader against Humboldt State, anyone with current and prior military service will receive: free admission, Broncos' Megaphone, hot dog and soda. Military Appreciation Night is being sponsored by the CPP Veterans Resource Center and Pieology in Walnut.
