Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos Fall Friday to Chico State, 51-50

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team suffered a tough 51-50 home loss to Chico State Friday at Kellogg Gym.

After trailing by six points with four minutes to play, the Broncos rallied to cut the Wildcats' lead to 51-50 after a Terrence Drisdom three pointer at the 2:03 mark. Tough defensive play held both teams scoreless the rest of the way and a last-second Drisdom attempt fell off the mark to conclude the Chico win.

Drisdom proved to be the top CPP threat on offense Friday. He finished with a game-high 20 points, including a 7-for-12 effort from the field. Jordan Faison joined him in double figures, tallying 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

The Broncos remained efficient from three-point range (5-for-9) and at the free throw line (11-for-13). The Wildcats won the turnover battle though, 14-11.

Both teams' overall marks settle at 7-3, while Chico improves to 4-1 in conference play and CPP falls to 3-2 in league action.

The first half proved to be a battle of the defenses, as the first nine minutes concluded with a 6-6 score. It took until the 16th minute before either team broke into double-digit points, first Chico, then the Broncos.

CPP gained a seven-point advantage with one minute to play, and a late three-pointer for Chico trimmed the Broncos' lead to 19-18 heading into halftime.

Both teams' offenses returned for the second half, as the two squads each eclipsed 30 points in the final period. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the visiting team added 33 points in the half while CPP only managed 31.

Chico widened its lead to a six-point margin on multiple occasions late in the game but the Broncos didn't back down. Just past the midway point of the second half, Bell knocked down a triple after a Drisdom assist. On the next CPP possession, Bell was fouled on a three-point attempt and he proceeded to sink all three free throws to cut the Chico advantage to one.

Even with the gap closing to one point at a few instances, the Wildcats never relinquished the lead after taking it with the first basket of the second half.

The Broncos return to action Saturday night at 7:30 in Kellogg Gym as they take on the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors for the second game of the doubleheader.
