With Saturday's CPP win and a Cal State Stanislaus loss, the Broncos now share first place with only Chico State. CPP owns an overall mark of 15-4 while going 11-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association(CCAA).
CPP shot 48 percent from the field Saturday and held the Pioneers to under 35 percent. The Green and Gold nearly doubled the opposition's rebound tally, grabbing 42 to East Bay's 23.
Coming off the bench the Broncos proved to have no troubling scoring as they earned 24 points and limited the Pioneers' bench to a single point. CPP forced 13 turnovers on the visitors, and earned 21 points off of those miscues.
East Bay's Jacari Whitfield provided a game-leading 17 points and was one of just two Pioneers who reached double digits.
As the game started CSUEB's team came out firing on all cylinders. They quickly sank a three and when the Broncos answered back, the Pioneers went on an eight-point run to pull ahead 11-5. That ended up being the visitor's largest lead of the game.
At the 6:27 mark in the first half, Finn sank his first three and brought the Broncos even with East Bay. From there, CSUEB would chase the lead for the remainder of the game. Finn's three kicked off a seven-point run for CPP.
The two entered half with the Broncos carrying a 10-point advantage and the score sitting at 34-24.
CPP steadily increased its lead in the second half, and two late runs, including their largest nine-point spree, provided them with the cushion they needed to win comfortably.
The Broncos will take to the road next weekend, traveling North to take on Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
