Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

@cppwsoccer Falls to Chico State Friday, 3-2

POMONA, Calif. – Despite a stellar comeback attempt, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 result at home to Chico State.

With the loss, the Broncos fall to 7-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Chico State moves to 8-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in league play. CPP and the Wildcats are now tied for fifth in the conference standings.

CPP held an advantage in shots, taking 16 attempts as compared to 10 for the Wildcats. Freshman Sydney Yates applied plenty of pressure for the Broncos' offense, collecting seven shots. She proved to be a catalyst though, delivering two assists for the CPP scores from Daisy Duran and Natalie Di Angelo.

It was Chico State breaking through on the scoreboard first though, as the visitors scored twice in a span of two and half minutes. Pooja Patel struck for the opening goal at the 16:20 mark and then Erin Woods pushed the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 with a score at 18:46.

CPP managed to trim the edge to 2-1 in the 37th minute. After an initial shot attempt by Yates, she controlled it once again and flicked it to Duran with a pass. Duran sent a line-drive shot into the back of the net, notching her fourth score of the year.

After the Wildcats pushed their lead to 3-1 just before halftime, the Broncos once again didn't back down. A long free kick from Rachel Killigrew ended up deflecting off Yates and over to Di Angelo, who tapped it into the net to pull CPP within just one score of Chico. The Wildcats held on to the victory, despite some late pressure from the Broncos.

With just four regular season games remaining, the Broncos will return to action on Friday with a 12:30 p.m. road match at Cal State Monterey Bay.
