Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@cppmsoccer Earns 1-0 Win With Late Goal!

SEASIDE, Calif. – With a goal in the game's waning minutes, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team secured a 1-0 win in Friday's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup against the hometown Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.

With his fourth goal for the Broncos this season, senior Alexander Turkson scored the only goal in the match in the game's 85th minute. The Ghana native took a shot from 25 yards out after making some room for himself in the field. His ball made its way past the CSUMB keeper in the upper right corner of the net and gave the Green and Gold the eventual game winner.

The Broncos now hold a 9-1-3 record on the season, complete with a 6-1-2 mark in conference play. The victory moves the CPP squad into second place in the conference standings and also secures the Broncos a spot in the upcoming six-team CCAA Tournament. The loss for the Otters finds them with an even 7-7 showing thus far in 2015 with a 4-6 mark in conference play.

With a consistently tenacious offense, the CPP squad had a massive shot advantage in the contest, posting 18 shots to the Otters' four. In the goal for the Broncos, Fernando Pablo Quevedo provided the visitors to the Otter Sports Complex with a beautiful save on a penalty kick that kept the Otters scoreless. The shot came just a couple of minutes after the second half began for the two squads.

CPP will return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. as they challenge the San Francisco State Gators at Cox Stadium in San Francisco. The gators secured a 1-0 victory over the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Sunday and currently carry a 6-6-3, 2-5-3 CCAA record into Sunday's showdown.

The semifinal and final rounds of the CCAA Tournament will be held at Cal Poly Pomona in the beginning of November.

With the first and second place team earning a bye, the conference's third place team will host its sixth place squad, and fourth will host fifth to determine what two teams will challenge the conference leaders at Kellogg Field.
