Broncos and Coyotes Tie 1-1 in Non-CCAA Game

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Saturday. The match, while against a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) team, did not count towards either team's conference record.

CPP's squad now owns a 5-3-1 overall record and after least week's game with Cal State LA has an even 2-2 in CCAA play. The Coyotes have a 4-3-3 record thus far in the 2015 season.

The first goal in the game was by the hometown Coyotes. The goal was scored by Gabby Evaristo and was her first of the season. She received a pass from her teammate right in front of the goal and sent the shot into the back of the Broncos' net.

Upon the arrival of the halftime break, the score stood in favor of the Coyotes 1-0.

Just over 19 minutes into the second half, the Broncos would even things up in the game. One of the Green and Gold's many shots found the back of the Coyote's net as Stephanie Rodriguez posted her first goal of the 2015 season. She received a pass from Ariana Fleischman and fired the shot from 18 yards out to pull the Broncos even at 1-1.

With the end of regulation, the scoreboard read what would be its eventual ending 1-1 score. Both periods of overtime came and went, but neither team was able to post a go-ahead goal.

At the end of the game, the final numbers showed a strong defensive showing by the Coyotes as CPP recorded a total of 27 shots. The hometown goalie racked up nine saves in the contest. Rickie Ives, the Broncos' goalie posted a total of two saves as she faced just four shots from the Coyotes.

The Broncos will continue their road trip on Oct. 9, as they head north to challenge the Cal State East Bay Pioneers in Hayward. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday. The road trip will finish off with a 2 p.m. match against the Stanislaus State Warriors.

CPP will return to Kellogg Field on Wednesday, Oct. 14 as they host the Coyotes at 4:30 p.m. The matchup will be the second meeting of the two squads as they played Saturday, however the meeting will count in CCAA play.
