POMONA, Calif.- The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team fell 68-51 to Montana State Billings on Friday in the final non-conference home matchup before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) kicks off play in early Dec.
The Green and Gold are still pushing for their first win of the 2015-16 season as the loss dropped them to an overall tally of 0-3. With the win in the contest, it was the Yellow Jacket's first and they now hold a record of 1-2 thus far this season.
With an absolutely stellar job for the Broncos,
Erin Hagan collected 19 points on a 60% shooting from the field. The junior led both squads in the point category and her 19 was a career-high and her second double-digit points game as a Bronco.
As a team, the CPP squad shot 72.2% from the free throw line, sinking 13-of-18 shots. Freshman
Jackie Ricketson was the other member of the Green and Gold who secured double-digit points in the contest.
Priscilla Brooks led the Broncos with nine total rebounds in the game, pulling down four offensive and five defensive boards. The CPP team outrebounded the Yellow Jackets in the contest and Brooks' two blocks led the Broncos field as well.
The Green and Gold had 18 points in the paint, topping the MSUB squad by eight points in the category. CPP also earned seven second chance points as they rebounded and scored in the same play.
In the first half of the game, the hometown Broncos took a moment to get into the stride of things. The 17 points in the half was on a 5-for-22 performance with six sank free throws. CPP did provide the game with the leading tally on rebounds though as they swiped 20 to the Yellow Jackets 15.
In the second half, the Green and Gold found a groove and proceeded to sink just under half of their shots, 12-for-25, and make a total of 34 points. The Broncos also recorded seven-of-nine free throws. In the second half Hagan earned 17 of her 19 points in the game.
The Broncos will return to action on Saturday as they play the Simon Fraser Clan at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. The Clan fell to the CSUSB squad on Friday 66-60 at Kellogg Arena. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
