@CPPWBB Secures 65-47 Win Heading into CCAA

FULLERTON, Calif. – As the new quarters-system of play is making its way around Division II women's basketball, the Cal Poly Pomona women's team is finding its groove. On Saturday, the Broncos' squad topped Hope International 65-47.

The contest was held at HIU's facility in Fullerton and marked the sixth game for the Green and Gold thus far in 2015-16. Drawing the win, the Broncos' record stands at 2-4 with their past two contest's being the victories.

CPP will be heading into conference-play next week as Wednesday they will face off against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals, the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles.

Turning attention back to Saturday's win, however, the Broncos received a stellar performance from newcomer Priscilla Brooks. The Riverside native racked up a game-leading 22 points on a 10-for-15 shooting.

Brooks, a sophomore for the Green and Gold turned in her first double-double performance in a Bronco uniform. Along with her 22 points, the product of John W. North High School provided her teammates with 14 rebounds, also a game-leading number.

Two other members of the Broncos boasted double-digit points as Mary Williams registered 12, sinking five shots and a pair of free throws, and Jordyn Shane recorded three baskets with four of her shots from the free throw line finding their mark.

From underneath the net, the Broncos well nearly unstoppable, scoring 46-of-65 from inside the paint.

The first quarter was the only one that the CPP squad didn't win in terms of the quarter score. At the end of the quarter, the score stood at 17-13 in the hometown Royals' favor.

After turning the second quarter around and doubling the HIU score for the score at 18-9, the Broncos led the Royals 31-26 heading into the halftime break. In the first half, the two teams' shooting was nearly identical. CPP sank 12-of 28 shots and seven free throws for their 31 points. The Royals recorded 11-of-28 shots but just one free throw made.

In the second half, the Green and Gold turned up the intensity and put in 14 shots with six free throws for their final score of 65. They also limited the Royals to just a 29% shooting and 9-of-31 shots with a pair of free throws.
