Broncos Cruise to 86-53 Win Over Dominguez

POMONA, Calif. – The nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team cruised to an 86-53 win over rival Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at Kellogg Arena.

The Broncos improve to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Meanwhile the Toros drop to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in league action.

"We came out much more focused this game than we have in a while," CPP head coach Greg Kamansky said. "We needed it because we're going on the road next week for two big matchups. We showed a lot of energy tonight, which I liked."

Four CPP student-athletes racked up double-digit points, led by Jordan Faison with 14 points. Contributing 13 points each were Daylan Lawrence, Francois Tchoyi and Barry Bell. Bell, the senior guard from Oakland, led the team in rebounds with eight and assists with seven.

Midway through the opening half, CPP extended its lead to double digits at 20-8 after a layup from Jeremy Dennis. That capped off a 12-0 run, which featured a three-pointer by Quentin Taylor and a three-point play by Tchoyi.

The advantage stayed in double digits for the remainder of the game, pushing into the 20-point range early in the second half after another basket by Taylor. Another 12-0 spurt came midway through the second half and that run included treys from Dennis and Lawrence.

CPP shot 50.7 percent in the game and the team's defense forced 17 turnovers from the Toros. The Broncos racked up 12 steals, including a team-best three steals from Lawrence.

CPP returns to action on Sunday with a road game at Cal State Monterey Bay. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
