CPP's Early Run Leads to 70-50 Win Over LA

POMONA, Calif. – Sparked by a 16-0 run to start the game, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team cruised to a 70-50 home win over Cal State L.A. on Friday.

The result puts the Broncos at 19-5 overall and 15-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CPP remains in a tie for first place with Chico State, a team that topped Sonoma State Friday.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. It'll be Senior Night and Homecoming at Kellogg Gym.

Junior forward Ryan Hall scored a career-high 16 points in Friday's win, going 5-for-7 from the field and adding four rebounds. In the 16-0 Broncos' run that started the game, Hall capped it off with a basket at the 14:57 mark.

Joining Hall in double figures was Jordan Faison, who finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

The Broncos outrebounded the Golden Eagles 41-37, including nine boards by Daniel Rodriguez and eight from Terrence Drisdom. Both teams kept their turnovers low as CPP won that battle 10-9.

To open up Friday's contest, the Broncos went straight into the post positions to jumpstart their offense. Faison dropped in the game's first basket and Chad Haysbert followed with a layup on the next possession. That opened up the CPP attack and a minute later, Barry Bell knocked down a three to put the Broncos ahead 9-0.

L.A. eventually got on the board but the Broncos managed to keep a double-digit lead for the final 36 minutes and 50 seconds of the game. CPP took a 39-23 edge into halftime. The Golden Eagles trimmed the gap down to 11 points on a few different occasions in the second half but that's as close as they would get.
