Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos Top Toros in Front of Record Crowd

POMONA, Calif. – In front of a record-setting crowd of 2,773 at Homecoming on Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team captured a 71-53 Senior Night win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Senior Terrence Drisdom led the team in scoring with 16 points while junior Jordan Faison contributed 12, including his 1,000th career point early in the game.

It marked CPP's final home game of the regular season. The Broncos, still tied with Chico State atop the conference standings at 16-4, will travel to take on Cal State San Bernardino and Humboldt State next week before beginning the CCAA Championships Tournament in Stockton.

With a three-win gap separating CPP and Chico from the rest of the pack, the Broncos have secured a first-round bye in the CCAA playoffs. CPP will start its postseason on Friday, March 6 in Stockton.

Saturday's victory capped off an incredible Homecoming on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. The attendance total of 2,773 is the biggest crowd for a men's basketball game in university history.

The win proved to be extra memorable for the Broncos' seniors and their families. Prior to the game, CPP honored its five seniors: Drisdom, Jordan Finn, Ray Ray Chase, Chad Haysbert and Daniel Rodriguez.

Similarly to Friday when the Broncos jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start the game, CPP put together a 12-0 spurt on Saturday to open the contest. It started with a Rodriguez layup off a Barry Bell assist and Faison capped it off with six-straight points, including the special point No. 1,000 of his career.

The Broncos never looked back after that and through the final 25 minutes of the game, the host squad held a double-digit lead. Heading into halftime, CPP possessed a 39-26 edge.

CSUDH was the first on the board coming out of the break, and its basket was quickly answered with a major dunk from Drisdom. Those two points kicked off a small eight-point run for CPP, which proved to be their largest of the half.

The remainder of the game saw pretty even scoring across the board for both teams, and with a minute left, the only points in the game were free throws. A pair of successful shots from the line for Haysbert, Chase, and Rhon Mitchell sealed the game in its final 71-53 result.

CPP will return to action on Thursday Feb. 26, as they travel to challenge the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino on the Coyotes' court. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
