POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team collected a 73-61 comeback win over Cal State L.A. on Friday.
The win moved CPP into a tie for second place in the conference standings as the Broncos own the same 16-3 mark as Cal State Dominguez Hills. CPP and the Toros will meet Saturday at Kellogg Gym as part of Homecoming and Senior Night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. The first 750 fans will receive a Homecoming rally towel and there will be free raffle ticket opportunities.
On Friday in the win over the Golden Eagles, four Broncos scored in double figures.
Ariel Marsh led the way with 17 points while
Jada Blackwell contributed 16.
Ashley Lovett added 13 and
Mary Williams tallied 11. The CPP defense forced 22 turnovers from CSULA and limited the visitors to 36.2-percent shooting.
After CPP took a 4-0 lead on a pair of
Tyler Woods free throws and a layup by
Lauren Goecke, L.A. scored its first points and eventually held a five-point edge midway through the opening half.
Mian Dingle snapped that small run from the Golden Eagles and the lead bounced back and forth.
Jordan Henry knocked down a three-pointer on the Broncos' last possession of the first half and that trimmed the L.A. lead down to 24-23 heading into the break.
Carrying that momentum into the second half, CPP got four-straight points from Blackwell to take the lead right back. The Broncos kept the intensity level up and the margin widened as far as 15 points late in the half on a Lovett layup. A pair of free throws by the Golden Eagles settled the final score at 73-61.
