Broncos Split the Weekend After 4-0 Win

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A 4-0 win over the Sonoma State Seawolves on Sunday earns the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team a weekend split. Securing the win in the contest gives the Broncos their second win on the weekend, sitting at two wins and two losses to SSU.

Recording the win on the mound for CPP was Ryan Olson who now has three victories and no losses on the season. His six strikeouts, one hit, and one hit batter allowed in the matchup provided CPP the necessary support from the bump.

The CPP offense added three runs of support for the sophomore pitcher in the top of the third inning. Crossing the plate first for the Green and Gold was catcher Christian Kelley who scored on a Nick Cooksey single to center field.

Later in that same inning, Ryan Webberley came to bat with the bases loaded and drew a walk to score Kyle Garlick for the Broncos' second run. The next play found Jonathon Reynoso sending a ball to the shortstop that resulted in a fielder's choice to second but scored Cooksey in the process.

Before Olson would come out however, the Broncos would tack on one more run to give him a four-run cushion. This time, Cooksey earned his second run batted in on the day sending a long fly ball to center field that allowed Jacob Bernardy enough time to score from third.

Kelley went 3-for-5 in the game with one run scored and improved his team-leading batting average to .386. Cooksey's pair of RBIs registered him at the helm of the Broncos in that category as he now carries 18 on the year.

CPP Baseball will return to action Friday, Mar. 20, with a 3:00 p.m. start against the defending California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) champions, the Chico State Wildcats. The game will be the first of a four-game series.
