ANCHORAGE, Alaska – For the second time in as many years, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team is headed to the West Region Title game. The contest is set to be played tonight at 8 p.m. Pacific (7 p.m. Alaska). The Broncos will take on the Cal Baptist Lancers in their first showdown of the season. The winner will advance to the Division II Elite Eight, which will be held March 24 through March 27 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
For Bronco fans in the Pomona area, there will be a viewing party at the Bronco Student Center. The direct link to the live stream can be
accessed here and the game will also be shown on the Cal Poly Pomona campus cable channel 32-1.
The Lancers are 26-6 on the season and are advancing to the West Region title game after routing the Point Loma Sea Lions 73-46 on Saturday. It will be the first Division II West Region title game in program history for CBU.
The Broncos are no stranger to the postseason as they will be playing for their third West Region Title in the past five seasons, the tenure of head coach
Danelle Bishop. Last season, the Broncos bested Montana State Billings in the title game held in Kellogg Gym to advance to the Elite Eight in Erie, Pa.
Thus far on the season, the Broncos hold a 21-8 record, including a 2-1 mark in postseason play. Their 2-0 mark in Alaska has seen them, on average, outscore the opposition by 10 points. They have recorded a 44.6 shooting percentage from the field and an 85.2 mark from the free throw line. The Green and Gold have more assists and more boards than the competition and outscored the opposing team in both the first and second half, showing a strong offensive performance throughout the games.
Leading CPP with 33 total points is
Ariel Marsh, who, on top of having the most success beyond the arc, has sank all 14 of her attempts from the free throw line.
Jada Blackwell is a mere point behind her with 32, and has provided the most help to the CPP offense, dishing out 13 assists, including a single-game high 10 on Saturday.
Ashley Lovett has registered a double-double both days of competition and leads the Broncos with 23 rebounds.
Mary Williams, who had a team-leading 23 points on Saturday, leads the team with both a 70.6 shooting percentage and zero turnovers.
