Sneakers & Scholarship Benefit Auction Set

POMONA, Calif.- Cal Poly Pomona Athletics will hold the Sneakers & Scholarships benefit auction on Saturday, Oct. 17 as part of the CPP Pumpkin Festival. The auction will be held in Kellogg Arena on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, beginning with a silent auction and social hour at 6:00 pm. A full buffet dinner and the live auction will begin at 7:30 pm.

Sneakers & Scholarships will raise funds in support of scholarships for deserving Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes. Every sport will benefit from the proceeds raised during the auction. Adding to the excitement of the event will be a limited number of unique items which will be auctioned off during the live auction. Beginning Monday, Sept. 7, new featured items for the live auction will be revealed at www.broncoathletics.com .

"We were looking for a fun way to raise awareness and support for our athletic program," stated Paul Bubb, director of development for athletics. "Our sports need additional scholarship funding as our overall scholarship budget is about 48 percent of what is allowed by the NCAA. We currently provide our teams with about $900,000 in scholarship support, but the NCAA allows us to provide up to $1.9 million in athletic grants. This event will help us close the gap between what we spend and what we could provide."

Attire for the event is business/ business casual. But Bubb has one other request for those who attend.

"Break out your favorite sneakers to match with your best suit or dress," says Bubb. "We want you to be comfortable as you walk around the silent auction tables, visit with friends, and show your support for the Broncos. I've already ordered my custom designed Chuck Taylor's for the event and will be happy to let you know how you can get yours."

Reservation information will be available after Sept. 8. Individual reservations will be $75 for the social hour, dinner and auction. Tables of eight will be available for $550. Those interested in contributing items for the auction should contact Paul Bubb at 909-869-2825, or via e-mail at pabubb@cpp.edu
