Kisslan, James Spur @cppwsoccer To OT Win!

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos earned a victory in the 2015 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season opener. Goals by Megan Kisslan and Hailey James provided the Broncos with the tying scores and pushed the game to overtime.

With the victory, the CPP team improved to a 4-1 record thus far on the season, complete with a 1-0 mark in conference play. The Tritons now own a 4-2 record on the year and the loss was their first in CCAA games.

First on the board in the game were the Tritons as a shot in minute 36 found the back of the Broncos' goal. The goal was Katie O'Laughlin's first of the season and she received assistance from two of her UCSD teammates.

The first half ended with the Green and Gold trailing 1-0. At half, the two squads were even in the number of shots taken as both teams had fired off six at the opposing net.

In the second half, the hometown Tritons would score yet again with another shot by O'Laughlin. The sophomore forward earned her second goal of the season with the shot.

Then it was the Broncos' turn.

Megan Kisslan, a senior defender gave the CPP squad their first goal of the game with a header in the 22nd minute of the second half. A cross from Rachel Killigrew gave the Anaheim native her second goal of the season.

As the clock wound down and the game was nearing the final countdown Hailey James stepped up and a long shot from the right side was sent towards the Triton's keeper. James' shot was perfectly placed found the back left corner of the goal, tying the game at 2-2. It was her first goal of the season.

At the end of regulation, the Broncos had tallied a total of 12 shots while the Tritons recorded 14. Ricki Ives had racked up four saves in the goal for CPP.

In overtime, the Broncos would receive their final needed point to finish off the Tritons and earn their win on the CCAA opener. A jumble in front of the net and a misplaced header by a UCSD player pushed the ball through the line and gave the Green and Gold the victory.

The Broncos will continue their road trip in San Diego County as they will play their second conference game against the newly christened Cal State San Marcos Cougars. CSUSM is entering its first season in the CCAA and tied on Friday against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes.

Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. and will take place at The Cougars Den on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.
