Gomez Scores But @cppwsoccer Falls

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In the second game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) 2015 season, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Cal State San Marcos Cougars. CSUSM entered the conference at the beginning of this season.

The Broncos now hold a 4-2 record on the season, complete with a 1-1 mark in the CCAA. The Cougars now register with a 1-2-3 tally on the year with a 1-0-1 mark in conference play.

Amanda Gomez, who scored three goals during her debut season as a Bronco in 2014 put the Green and Gold on the board as she scored the first goal of the match. Megan Kisslan provided Gomez with the needed pass as Gomez received the ball from a distance and put it in the right side of the net past the Cougars' goalkeeper.

At halftime, the score stood at 1-0 in favor of CPP. The Broncos only shot twice during the first half and thus posted a 50 percent shooting in the half.

In the second half, the hometown Cougars would tie it up as a goal from Natalie Lara pulled CSUSM even with the Broncos. It marked Lara's second goal of the season. San Marcos would continue their momentum 10 minutes later with a header off of a corner kick. The goal was Paulina Good's first of the season and put the Cougars up 2-1.

The postgame totals showed the Cougars post 12 total shots to the Broncos' three. All three of the Green and Gold shots however were on goal while just half of the CSUSM shots were so accurate. Ricki Ives registered four saves in the goal for CPP.

The Broncos will continue their conference play on Friday, Sept. 25 as they host the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros. The game, at 4:30 p.m., will mark the Broncos' annual Pack the Stands game as fans will be able to participate in festivities and promotions to celebrate the start of the new school year.

CPP will host the Toros at Kellogg Field. CSUDH holds a 1-5 record thus far in 2015 and have lost both of their matches in the CCAA. They fell to Humboldt and Sonoma, both by a score of 1-2.
