@cppwsoccer Nets 1-0 Shutout Saturday

POMONA, Calif. - A goal from Lauren Miller late in the first half proved to be the difference Saturday as the nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Academy of Art.

With a 2-0 record to start the season, the Broncos will travel to Denver next weekend for a pair of tough road matchups against Metro State and Regis.

Saturday's goal proved to be the third score of Miller's career. A junior from Redwood City, Miller scored once in 2013 as a freshman and again last year. On the play, Natalie Di Angelo provided an assist before Miller knocked it across the line at the 43:08 mark.

The Broncos finished Saturday's match with a whopping 20-3 advantage in shots. Early in the second half, the visiting Urban Knights produced their best chance of the game when Silvia Fernstrom lined a shot off the crossbar before it bounced out of harm's way.

CPP put together several scoring chances in the second period as well, including Hailey James hitting the post on two different shot attempts.

The Broncos' backline kept the pressure relatively light for the team's goalkeeper Ricki Ives. For the second-straight match, Ives notched one save en route to another shutout.

CPP will challenge Metro State on Friday in the road game beginning at 6 p.m. Pacific (7 p.m. Mountain).
