Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@CPPMBB at 7-2 in CCAA After 47-45 Loss

LOS ANGELES- The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team fell for just the second time this season on Saturday night. The Broncos were topped by the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles 47-45 in the Eagles' Nest.

Overall on the season, the Green and Gold have amassed a stellar 14-2 record, complete with a 7-2 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The win was CSULA's second in conference play and third overall on the season as they sit with a 3-12 record thus far.

CPP was led in the contest by Jordan Faison, who tallied 12 points. Following the Lake Forest native was Oakland native Barry Bell, who tallied eight points of his own.

Just behind Faison and Bell with seven points each were Quentin Taylor and Jeremy Dennis.

Both teams had a rough go of things as each made just 14 shots. The Broncos registered a 28% shooting from the field as the Golden Eagles were only slightly better at 29.8%.

CPP scored more points in the paint, recording 14 to the CSULA team's 10. The Broncos also racked up nine steals in the contest and limited the Golden Eagles to six.

In the contest, the Golden Eagles struck first with a free throw, but the Broncos answered back and for the next few minutes the two teams traded points. The game saw four ties in the early minutes, but the Broncos received a jumper from Taylor that gave them the lead they would carry throughout the half. At the halftime break, the CPP team led the Golden Eagles 33-23.

The CSULA squad pushed back in the second half and with the score at 37-37 midway through the half, added a bucket to take the lead for the first time since the game's opening minutes. With just over three minutes to go in to game, the Dennis sank a pair of free throws to pull the Broncos even at 42-42.

A late three-pointer by the Golden Eagles' point leader gave them a two point lead that they carried through the final seconds.

CPP will return to action Saturday night as they travel to Carson to the Torodome to challenge the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros. CSUDH won their contest on Friday as they hosted the Humboldt State Jacks and finished with a final score of 91-83.

The contest between the Broncos and Toros is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
