Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second-Highest Season Score Not Enough To Win

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Despite a stronger showing in the fourth quarter, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team was defeated on Saturday by the UC San Diego Tritons. The final score in the contest was 90-76 in the home team's favor.

CPP had four members of its team reach double-digit points in the showdown and the 76 points that the Green and Gold reached was the second-highest point tally thus far in the 2015-16 season.

Leading the way on an impressive 8-for-13 showing for the Broncos was Marshanique Hall. The junior provided her teammates with 20 points in the game as well as three rebounds, an assist, and one of CPP's two steals.

Second on the Green and Gold's squad in the point tally was Alyssa Benton, whose six shots and three free throws secured her 16 points. She was also second on the Broncos' team with eight rebounds.

With nine points herself, Priscilla Brooks also tallied 10 rebounds. Rounding out the final two double-digit scorers for the Broncos were Jordyn Shane and Jackie Ricketson. Each of those two freshmen tallied 10 points in the matchup.

As a team, the Green and Gold shot nearly 50% in the contest, sinking 30-of-62 shots. They also secured 36 total rebounds in the contest, out grabbing the hometown Tritons by 12.

The loss for the Broncos drops them to a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) record of 2-4 en route to a season tally of 4-9. With the win in the matchup, the Tritons now sit at 6-1 in the CCAA and have a stellar 11-2 record overall this season.

CPP will return to action on Jan. 7 as they defend Kellogg Arena against the Stanislaus State Warriors. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. After that Thursday matchup, the Broncos then host the Chico State Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday's game will mark Heroes Night for CPP athletics as Police, Fire and Military personnel will receive free admission as a thanks for the selflessness of their actions and the services provided.
