POMONA, Calif. – As the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team comes off a 51-38 shutdown of the Humboldt State offense, it must turn its sights to Thursday. At 5:30 p.m. the Broncos will host local rivals, the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes at Kellogg Arena.
ZOOperstars! will be performing during the Cal Poly Pomona women's and men's basketball "Pack the Stands" doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 28. The visit from the ZOOperstars! is being co-sponsored by University Housing Services and the Intercollegiate Athletics department.
As always, admission is free for all Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty and staff.
ZOOperstars! will rock the house with routines that fans of all ages will love. Whether they are wildly dancing on the court, performing unbelievable tricks and maneuvers, creating havoc in the stands, or spraying silly string into the audience, the ZOOperstars! are guaranteed to make you laugh!
A lot of their success can be attributed to the uniqueness of the gigantic costumes and funny character names, which make the ZOOperstars! memorable. They flip, they bounce, they shake, they dance and they just flat-out JAM!
CPP will be hosting the Coyotes with an overall mark of 6-12 on the season, complete with a 4-7 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The CSUSB squad has thus far amassed a 7-5 conference record en route to a 10-6 overall season tally.
In the last contest between the two teams, the hometown Coyotes did come away on top after defeating the Green and Gold 68-60 at Coussoulis Arena. Despite the loss, three members of the Broncos did reach double digit points and CPP recorded a higher shooting percentage.
After the Broncos host the Coyotes, they will take Friday to prepare for their Saturday contest against the visiting UC San Diego Tritons. That contest is also set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
The last time CPP and the Tritons met was at RIMAC Arena on Jan. 2 where the hometeam topped the Broncos 90-76. Thus far on the season, the Tritons hold a 10-2 mark in conference play and an overall 15-3 tally. They are second in the conference and prior to the trip to Pomona, will challenge the Humboldt State Jacks on Thursday in Arcata.
CPP has had a steady stream of leaders this season, At the helm of the offense is freshman
Jordyn Shane. The guard has recorded 219 points thus far for an average of 12.2 a contest. She also sits at second on the team with 21 steals and in a tie for third with eight total blocks.
Senior
Mary Williams remains the team's most efficient shooter, sinking .559 % of shots taken.
Priscilla Brooks, a sophomore for the Green and Gold averages 8.7 rebounds a game as she has totaled 148 on the season. Her number not only leads the Broncos, but also lands her at third in the conference.
